ATP Halle: Bublik stuns Sinner, Zverev battles through to advance

On June 19, 2025, a surprising turn of events occurred at the ATP 500 Halle men's singles tournament, where defending champion and top seed Sinner was defeated in the second round by Bublik, the 2023 tournament champion, with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, thus failing to reach the quarterfinals.

Bublik

In a recent match at the French Open, Bublik achieved his best Grand Slam performance but was defeated by Sinner. In this match, Sinner initially took control, winning the first set 6-3. In the second set, after missing several break points, Sinner was the first to be broken, allowing Bublik to seize the opportunity and equalize the set score at 6-3. In the deciding set, both players wasted break opportunities until Bublik finally broke serve in the seventh game, maintaining his advantage to win the match 6-4. Bublik will face the seventh seed, Khachanov, in the quarterfinals, who advanced by defeating Marozsan 6-2, 6-3.

The local second seed Zverev had a tough battle, coming back to win against Sonego with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2). In other matches, third seed Medvedev and eighth seed Khachanov both eliminated their respective opponents to advance; fourth seed Rublev lost to Echeverry after wasting a match point.
